Nekra the Sockeye Zombie
Meet Nekra the Zombie Sockeye Salmon (Oncorhynchus nekra), the adorably ghastly plushie based on British Columbia's most iconic fish! This plush is perfect for fishermen, fish enthusiasts, conservationists, and marine biologists alike. Fraser is intricately detailed with accurate fins (including the adipose fin), head structure, and colors, ensuring an authentic representation of this incredible fish.
Most salmon are semelparous which means they die after reproducing. Their bodies begin to breakdown due to stress hormones, exhaustion and skin vulnerability. Sockeye Salmon die within a few days after spawning but some can survive for up to two or three weeks afterwards and are often referred to as 'Zombie Salmon'.
These plushies are perfect gifts for fishermen, environmentalists, marine biologists, teachers, and institutions in the Pacific Northwest (British Columbia, Washington, Alaska and Oregon). They offer a wide variety of uses (educational programs, classrooms, hatcheries, etc), thanks to their accuracy, cute style and fun colors.
Fraser was designed and illustrated by the talent of Paleoartist Saureal with the help of Paleontologist Brennan Martens.
